TPCI welcomes government’s move to raise custom duty on furniture and other non-essential imports
Press Release:
TPCI welcomes government’s move to raise custom duty on furniture and other non-essential imports
Appreciating the union budget 2020-21, Chairman of the Trade Promotion Council of India, Mohit Singla said, “This is a great move by the government which will provide impetus to the domestic manufacturer in India to augment the ‘Swadeshi’ products at domestic and global scale. This move will allow Indian furniture products to find space in the global retail shelf and also meet the burgeoning domestic demand by leveraging its potential.”
Further Singla said, India, despite the rich geographical diversity, technical know how and ample availability of skills could not so far tap the latent opportunity. The restrictions in imports by enhancing custom duties will lead to the level playing field where the domestic companies can now compete at global platforms. This will also provide special impetus to clusterization as seen by the department of commerce and industry to augment exports.”
