Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) with support of Department of Commerce, Government of India is organizing the upcoming edition of its flagship export promotion event called Source India at Istanbul, Turkey from 14th-17th December, 2021. This is expected to be a premier B2B trade fair covering multiple sectors such as Information Technology, Food Processing Technologies, Food Packaging Technologies, Food & Beverages and Ceramic Tiles.
In 2020, Turkey’s merchandise imports from around the world touched US$ 219.5 billion, with China being its top supplying market followed by Germany, Russian Federation, USA and Italy. Turkey’s top imports are mineral fuels, IT and machinery, steel, iron, electrical machinery, vehicles, plastics, gems, metals, organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals.
In 2020, Turkey’s imports from India reached at US$ 4.8 billion. Mineral fuels, petroleum, synthetic filament yarns, and components, parts and accessories for vehicles, reactive dyes, and jewelry were imported were the top export from India to Turkey. India has a large export potential in raw materials of advanced pharmaceutical industry and in food products, especially olive oil, hard-shelled fruit and dry fruits, given the market dynamics of Turkey. The construction sector is expected to register a recovery, growing by 5.6% in 2021 after the pandemic setback last year and further maintain a growth rate of 6% during 2022-25, which can be lucrative for tiles and construction materials companies.
Indian IT firms could explore opportunities in Turkey, and focus on investing in subsidiaries and joint ventures in the areas of e-governance, financial services and e-education, according to a report by EXIM Bank. Indian companies could also share their expertise in software and services with Turkey’s BFSI sector.
