The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme was launched under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative’ by the Indian government to boost domestic manufacturing in the country in March 2020. Till April 2021, the scheme has been approved  by the Cabinet for nine sectors including electronic or technology products, pharmaceuticals drugs, telecom & networking products, food Products, high-efficiency solar PV modules, etc. The strategy behind the scheme is to provide incentive to the companies on the goods manufactured in India with the objective to make domestic manufacturing globally competitive and create global champions in manufacturing.

The panel members were prominent experts from the government, UN ESCAP and industry leaders who shared their unique  perspectives with the viewers. The panelists shed light on the importance of the PLI scheme and discussed the growth outlook for the industries operating under the scheme.

Wide ranging issues entailing PLI scheme right from the concept objective and how to file application for availing the benefits under the scheme were discussed. The esteemed panelists Dr Ratna (UN ESCAP) highlighted the importance of complying with global standards to make world class products marketable and saleable globally. Shri Ashish Agarwal (Director at Bhikaji Bhikharam Chandmal Bhujiawala Pvt. Ltd.) and Kuldeep Sharma (Founder at Suruchi Consultants), representing the industry thought leadership deliberated upon why food sector integration with SMEs in India is critical with the optimal leverage of PLI scheme.
